A growing, private equity-backed consumer products company is seeking a hands-on Director / Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to help transform how the organization uses financial and operational data to make decisions.
This is not a traditional reporting-focused FP&A role. The company is looking for a strategic finance leader who can help build the analytical backbone of the business—improving forecasting and planning, developing meaningful customer and product profitability insights, and creating the tools and processes that allow leadership to better understand business performance and make faster, data-driven decisions.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the FP&A function, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, management reporting and performance analysis.
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CFO and business leaders, translating financial and operational data into actionable insights.
- Build stronger analytical capabilities across the organization, shifting the finance function from primarily reporting results to explaining performance and identifying opportunities.
- Develop sophisticated customer, product/SKU, channel, margin and profitability analytics.
- Establish KPIs and management tools that provide greater visibility into business performance and underlying drivers.
- Improve forecasting, scenario planning and decision-support capabilities.
- Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations and other functions to understand performance and support strategic decision-making.
- Play a key business leadership role in the development of the company's future data and analytics infrastructure, including master data management, data warehousing and profitability analytics.
- Define finance and business requirements for a new data warehouse and work with internal technology resources and external implementation partners to ensure the solution meets the analytical needs of the business.
- Improve integration and usability of financial, CRM and operational data across the organization.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting, analysis and finance workflows through modern technology, including AI-enabled tools and agents.
- Lead, develop and strengthen a lean FP&A/analytics team while remaining willing to work hands-on when needed.
- Support executive leadership and the private equity sponsor with financial analysis, strategic planning and business performance insights.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Approximately 8–12+ years of progressive FP&A, strategic finance or related experience, with meaningful leadership responsibility.
- Previous experience within a private equity-backed operating company strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a middle-market or larger organization with meaningful operational complexity.
- Demonstrated success building or transforming an FP&A and analytics capability, rather than simply managing an established reporting function.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, profitability analysis and business performance management.
- Experience in a consumer products, retail, distribution, manufacturing or other SKU/inventory-intensive business is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of ERP, CRM, BI and enterprise data environments, with the ability to work comfortably beyond Excel.
- Experience helping define and implement a data warehouse, financial data model, profitability cube or similar analytical environment strongly preferred.
- Does not need to be a data engineer, but should understand how financial and operational data needs to be structured to provide meaningful business insights.
- Experience with modern BI, analytics and planning technologies; exposure to platforms such as Power BI, Snowflake, Databricks or similar tools is valuable.
- Interest in leveraging AI, automation and agent-based technologies to increase the capabilities and scalability of a lean finance organization.
- Strong executive communication and business-partnering skills with the ability to turn complex data into clear recommendations.
- Builder mentality—comfortable operating with a lean team, creating structure where it doesn't yet exist and personally getting into the details when necessary.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
This is an opportunity to join an established consumer products business at a significant inflection point. New leadership is driving a renewed growth strategy with substantial investment in brand development, marketing and the infrastructure needed to support the company's next stage.
The environment will appeal to someone who enjoys the energy and ownership of a growth-stage company while having the resources and market presence of an established business.
The position also offers equity participation, allowing this leader to share in the value created during the company's next phase of growth.
